Our personal and professional theme for 2026 is refinement. We have our (metaphorical) outline all blocked out, time to go in on the details! One example of this is setting a beautiful table just because. Cocktail napkins for light entertaining, placemats and tea towels for an everyday lift and tablecloths for special occasions or to change the mood of a room.

Toast Club is the by product of the “pop up” we did for Picnic and Art Supplies at Leslie’s house on the landing of her staircase. We had scarf rings made of pieces of bread 3-d scanned and printed but 1st we had to find the perfect pice of bread. Due to the extensive R&D process, we had 7 loaves of bread left over. We decided to meet the next morning (Sunday) at 11am (a civilized time) to drink coffee and set our intentions for the month. The idea being, saying things out loud to other people might be just the accountability needed to get things done. That we made Picnic and Art Supplies a real live shop is just proof that Toast Club works! Anyways, come to the 1st Toast Club of the year Sunday January 11th 11am-1pm. There will be coffee, there will be toast. It’ll be a great start to the new year.

We also have the 1st Club Mend of the year and Vision Board Happy Hour later this month. Come hang!

Oh my gosh! This year has been so long and flown by at exactly the same time. We signed our lease in May and opened in August. Many people helped figure out how to bring our vision to life and we’re so grateful! The concept was always a clubhouse with a gift shop, having so many friendly helping hands infused the space with good vibes. It’s a pleasant place to spend the day.

Come to our birthday party! Saturday August 16th 4-7.

There will be pizza, cold drinks, birthday cake (the best kind of cake is birthday cake), a pinata, a raffle, maybe snow cones and hopefully you. Let’s do some sidewalk loitering and take in the good fortune of being together!

Our beautiful sign was designed by and painted by Natalie Cruz who is a delight to work with and we strongly recommend for your sign needs.

Totally unrelated but Saturday the 23rd at Hollywood Forever is the 98th annual memorial for Rudolph Valentino. See the current woman in black and have a picnic by the lake. LA is a weird and wonderful place that we should all remember to take full advantage of.

Most pressingly is Toast Club, this Sunday July 13th from 11am-1pm. Come! It’s silly and fun and good excuse to get together and set some intentions for the month ahead. Bring a book to swap and an enthusiasm for toast.

Fun fact, opening Picnic and Art Supplies was an intention we set at a Toast Club!

We are very proud of our new window, come by to see the magnificence for yourself. It’s a window so you can see it 24/7 if you miss our normal shop hours.

We have another happy hour and uninstructed collage Friday July 25th 4pm-7pm. Wine, Non (the 0 proof alternative we stock) and lots of magazines to get inspired with. Free!

It’s warm, the sun is out ‘till nearly 9pm and the Hollywood Bowl is open! Go forth into the world, we’re here in the shop if you need picnic supplies.

We are taking June to finally build a shoppable website. Remember when you could just be a cute store and open your doors? Well, we did that and now we need to open our internet doors. So far you can buy one life size sequined swan, in store pick up only (not sure how to ship).

April and May were a whirl of activity! Let’s recap.

We had a super fun open house/hot dog bar the day that CicLAVia was in Koreatown. We had several drop in mending day, a happy hour with collage, a dreamy window installation and reception, a linocut bandana workshop and a super special 10th birthday party with leather working.

That’s it for now. We will pull ourselves together and send out the schedule for July in a timely manner. Oh! We turn 1 in August. That requires a party.

Picnic and Art Supplies

The workshops have been a great reason to keep seeing each other. We needlepointed lighter covers, crafted leather pet collars, embroidered shop tote bags as a sort of needlework sampler and started Mendsday. Writing this all out I’m seeing that we are really in an embroidery phase.

We also made linocut print gift tags, fermented sriracha (the shop smelled like garlic for two weeks), collaged vision boards, met for three Toast Clubs, drew still lifes and experimented with watercolor.

Guiding people to find the right gift during the holiday season was a joy. What a treat it was to hear how delighted the gift recipients were! One hard to shop for dad loved his fish fork and tinned fish book so much that he was sent a replacement fork after accidentally leaving the original gift behind in the Airbnb. We love being part of your lives.

A gift shop seems like silly thing, but a good gift shows the people you care about that you see them. It can also show your enemies that you’re on to them. Either way, the message gets across!

Coming up we have an open house/hotdog bar on Sunday April 6th with extended hours 10am-5pm. This is to coincide with CicLAvia Koreatown to East Hollywood going down Western, a short bike ride from the shop. Come hang out!

The next Mendsay (mending Wednesday) is April 9th 4pm-8pm. It’s free and you can RSVP on our website. Bring something in need of mending and Molly Painter will have the supplies and the know-how to get you started.
